Cognitive Training with Captain’s Log Software
As with most skill building, cognitive training requires repetition over time. Just as a world class athlete needs to practice multiple times a week to maximize his or her performance, so do individuals learning new cognitive skills. In order to make our cognitive training effective, we combine weekly center based training sessions with follow-up practice in the home. This training typically last from 12 to 20 weeks. Booster sessions are available.
Our cognitive training consists of various coach led computerized programs using the Captain’s Log software program. Trainings are indivdiualized to improve:
- Attention Skills: The individual is trained to attend to and discriminate between auditory and visual stimuli, to improving inhibition and scanning skills, and to improve reaction time
- Visual Motor Skills: Training is given to improve eye/hand coordination, visual scanning, visual tracking and fine motor control.
- Conceptual Skills: This section focuses on improving basic reasoning, memory and perceptual discrimination.
- Numeric Concepts/Memory Skills: This includes trainings of mathematical concepts, memory, problem solving and organizational skills, and detailed reading comprehension.
Monthly planning and review meetings are a standard component of our cogntive training program.
